PROJECT NEHEMIA - III

PHASE – I Mimbung English High School,
Mimbung,
Mizoram Division		 Rs  30,000/- granted for purchase of library and science laboratory equipments. With the recognition of the school by the Mizoram Board of School Education and the permission to open Class-X therein, there was an urgent need set up a proper science laboratory and library as required by the rules. The requisite facilities were set up through the financial support of Project Nehemiah.
PHASE – II Convention English School, Tuimajang,
Singngat Division		 Rs  1,20,000/- allotted for construction of a new school building in the village. Construction completed. However, heavy storm destroyed most of the building soon after and the EBC HQ took up the task of rebuilding the same, which had also been completed and the school has been fully functional since.
PROJECT COMPONENT: AFFORESTATION In order to highlight the issue of massive deforestation in the Hill areas and to sensitise the students regarding the resultant ecological degradation, a need was felt to incorporate afforestation programmes as a component of the Project.
Accordingly, the beneficiaries of Project Nehemiah during this period were, on their part, advised to take up green initiatives and involve the students in planting trees in and around the school/village and nurturing the same. For every 1,000 rupees of financial assistance received, the schools were expected to plant one sapling. Thus, CEHS, Mimbung was to plant 30 saplings while CES, Tuimajang was expected to ensure plantation of 120 saplings. It is heartening to learn that the former in particular has been very successful in implementing this Project component.
