BYF DAY, EBCC DELHI: Brief Report
Date: 20 October, 2013 (Sunday)
Time: 11 A.M.
Place: EBC Church, Nasirpur, New Delhi
20 October, 2013 is celebrated as Baptist Youth Fellowship (BYF) Day by the EBC youths throughout the world. The BYF Day Celebration had started the day before in Delhi which saw participation from around 500 youths. Various competitions and activities had already been held and Pu Vumlunmang Vualnam was the main speaker the day before, exhorting the youths with a lively and inspiring message.
2. The program started with Praise and Worship led by the Praise and Worship Team with songs like “Tuailai Hun leh Ni Kipahhuai”, “Aw Nang Tuailai”, etc sung by the congregation. Offerings were collected by the ushers and Upa Damsomthang had the offertory prayer.
3. BYF Chairman, Pu L.Chinhaugou delivered the BYF Day Message. He welcomed the congregation to the BYF Day Celebration and expressed his thanks to the Lord for giving us this wonderful day. He outlined in brief about the setting up of the Youth Wing of EBC, then called Khristian Tuailai Pawl in the Eighties. He said that he found out that the youths are so talented during the various competitions and activities held during this BYF Day Celebrations and asked the youths what they will do with the outrageous talents that God gives them. He asked whether they should use their talents only once a year during BYF Day and challenged them to utilize their talents for the glory of the Lord.
4. Ber Sarai Area Fellowship presented a special number after which Pastor V. Nenglian delivered the BYF Day Sermon. He recounted some of the points spoken by Pu Vumlunmang Vualnam the day before for the benefit of those who missed it. He stated that Pu Mang had shared with the youths the evidence of the truth of the Bible-historically as well as archaeologically. He recalled what Pu Mang said about life that it is not complete without God although we may have riches, knowledge and status aplenty. He retold the story of John D. Rockfeller, an industrialist who became the first American billionaire. He became a millionaire at the age of 23 and was a goal-setting expert. He knew what he wanted in life, had clear goals and worked towards those goals relentlessly. He became a billionaire by 53 but unfortunately suffered from illness. His physicians warned him that he would not live beyond a year. So, he started thinking about his life and how he would spend his God-given wealth. He decided to spend his wealth for the cause of humanity and its uplift. He set up a Foundation which funded research, hospitals and worked towards human welfare. Defying all odds and the predictions of his doctors, he overcame his illness and lived till the ripe old age of 98. He challenged the congregation to question themselves how they use their God-given and challenged them to give, like John D. Rockfeller did.
5. He then quoted from Matthew 16:25 which states thus, “For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it”. He said that giving leads to peace of mind and takes us nearer to God. He encouraged the congregation to lead not just successful lives, but precious lives. He then spoke on the topic “Faithful Witness”, taken from Acts 22:15 which says, “For you will be a witness for Him to all men of what you have seen and heard.” He said that we can be faithful witnesses by believing in the way, the truth and the life as Jesus said in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” But he warned that faith/belief without action is not true faith/belief. Faith/Belief should be complimented by action and we should live our faith as a way of life. He said we should be faithful witnesses wherever we are and in whatever we do. He then had a prayer for all the youths of the church.
6. After the Pastor’s prayer, R.K. Puram Area Fellowship presented a special item. Upa Kamsuanthang then conducted the BYF 2014 Election and the church members chose 9 boys and 6 girls to lead the BYF in the forthcoming year. Mohammadpur Area Fellowship presented a special item and the service ended with closing prayer from Upa Kamsuanthang
