Worship Service 20th January 2013
After a brief holiday our Pastor V. Nenglian was back in Delhi to preach to the congregation and commence the Sunday School (adult) schedule for this year. The children’s Sunday school also began simultaneously. The worship team began the service by leading the congregation in a time of praise and worship followed by the collection of tithes and offering.
The Gospel of Mark has been chosen as the text of this year’s study. Our pastor gave a brief introductory background on the possible sources and timeline regarding the origin of this book. He informed us that there were 16 chapters in the book and it was possibly written around 65 AD. It has been speculated that this book was the inspiration for the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. Christ has been revealed as the messenger and saviour not just for the Jews but also for the Gentiles. The death of Jesus is pivotal to this Gospel and this is especially significant as during the historical timeline when the book was composed the new converts of Christianity were facing severe persecution at the hands of the pagan Romans. Hence the Gospel of Mark can be read as an exhortation to continue in our faith even in the face of oppression from the world. This was relevant then as it is now in our modern times.
The service ended with a tea fellowship.
