SERMON TOPIC ---- GOD'S PROMISES TO DAVID
Pastor based his sermon on 2 Samuel 7:12-17, which writes the detail about what God will do for David. Pastor started his sermon with a reflective statement of David being chosen by God to lead, guide, bless and deliver him to be a king. Now the question remains whether David did not ask, but was chosen. What does this teach us? God himself announced a promise to David. In the same vein we as his children, saved and bought by the blood of Jesus ought to ponder on his promises through his son and how faithful it is to us.
Who is David :
- Chosen by God (1Smuel 16:13) David lead a righteous life;
- King of Israel (2Smuel 2:4) God made him the king of Israel;
- A man that fall for sin (2Smuel 11) David as a man fall into temptation, sinned against God, commit adultery;
- A man that cannot uphold his family (2Samuel 13) His son killed his own child, fight amongst themselves and try to fight him which made him abscond his throne and ran away; and
- Ultimately David repented and begged GOD for forgiveness, God still keep his promise and made them come true only through him and his descendents
In our personal life or while trying to maintain a family pleasing to God, in work/studies we might face difficulties, obstacles and breakdown. When the world has taken new laws, gay issues, human rights, self righteousness, do we ever reflect upon this issues to see what promise God has to us, or how faithful it is. Do we consider and think for a minute that God has made you a promise. How many times did you do things depending on what you want, what you need? Consider what His promises are, are you making a life fulfilling his promises.
Faithfulness of Gods' promises :
- David's kingdom runs for 400 long years through his descendents
- Downfall of the kingdom of Judas (Nebuchadnezzar)
- A king born from a Messiah through David's blood line, his kingdom will have no end.
Points to Ponder:
Considering David's life and placing our life, are we faithful on our responsibility as a son of God? How many times have we done things on our own judgement? Are we happy when we realize His promise? But in the long ran like David, do we fall into sins? Do we hold onto his promises? Even when we are not worthy of his mercy, God is faithful in his promise, He kept his promise to David even after decades passed.
God is faithful to his promise, for you and your family, for every believer, when you face difficulties, when marriages fail, when your work gets tough, when everything seem broken, do you hear Him call, do you remember that He is faithful to his promise through Jesus? He will fulfill. He who said, "and remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age."
