Message for the Day
After that, the Pastor introduced the guest speaker, Rev. Dr. Luaichinthang, an illustrious leader of the EBCC.
The Reverend then took to the pulpit and gave a general introduction about the background of how he had come to join the day’s worship service. Then, the Reverend told the gathering that Christianity and Suffering had been something that had been on his mind a lot and that he had spoken about it or had written about it on many occasions. Therefore, he wanted the day’s sermon to be based on the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 5 Verses 17 till 48. He wanted the gathering to think about following God’s way, and in order to do that, to find out first what God’s way is. He explained how Jesus had come, not to abolish the old ways, but to fulfill them. The Reverend then warned against becoming like the Pharisees and their ways of doing everything out in the open for all to see. He said that what is important is what cannot be seen by the naked eye, that is, what is inside. He further explained that mere written words only led to death, but the Spirit which they contains leads to an everlasting life.
The Reverend then laid out two points by which one can exceed the Pharisees’ righteousness and thus follow God’s way. One is, by being born again; through which one can acquire true love that comes from God, and by dint of that one can truly love their fellow mankind. The other way is through Christ. By the Mercy and Power of Christ, we are being allowed to share Christ’s righteousness. This is the only way that our righteousness can exceed even those of the Pharisees. The Reverend concluded his message by encouraging the gathering to be happy that we are allowed to share Jesus’ righteousness, and to be joyful that God has given us a way to exceed even the Pharisees’ righteousness.
After the Reverend had delivered his message, the Pastor welcomed some new faces at the gathering, upon which, the Worship Team led the congregation into a last bout of praise and worship for the day. Thereupon, Upa Damsomthang closed the day’s worship service with a benediction.
