SUNDAY SCHOOL

The Worship programme started at 11am when, Pastor V. Nenglian took time to welcome the congregation. He read out Psalms 17:1-3, made a few comment on the verses and opened the day’s programme with prayer.

Thereafter, Worship Team led the praises with songs. After awhile of praises songs, the offering collection followed. Deacon Thiankhanmuan dedicated the offering to the Lord through prayer.

Sunday School Sermons (Luke 10 - 12)

Today is the last class of completing the entire lesson of Sunday School. Pastor Nenglian took the class.

Chapter 10

1) Sending out Seventy (v.1 – 24)

The seventy persons are sent away two by two for preaching ‘the kingdom of God is at hand’. The seventy later returned back and reported to Lord Jesus that they could command demons and are so much happy for this. But Jesus urged them to rather rejoice as their names are written in heaven.

2) Admonished a lawyer (v.25 – 37)

Here a lawyer’s story who search salvation by good works is explained. Salvation is through the mercy of God and the belief in Jesus Christ rather than good works. An illustration of ‘good samaritan’ is talked about in these verses to know about who is our neighbour. It said, a neighbour is one who gives the needed help with great affection (like the Samaritan) to those who are greatly harmed, unlike the Priest and the Levite in the verses who disdained from helping the injured man.

3) Martha and Mary (v.38 – 42)

From these verses, we can know that, God gifts to each one of us should be used as good as possible. Also we should not blame or envy the gifts that someone posses. We should not be concerned in many things in life, but concern only the most important one which Mary had chosen.

Chapter 11,

1) The Lord’s prayer (v.1 – 14)

In these verses, Jesus teaches His disciples how to pray as requested by one of the disciples. God is truthful and trustworthy; we should ask Him earnestly of our needs, and also the Holy Spirit, all these will be given to us.

2) Jesus and Beelzebub (v.14 – 28)

When Jesus was accused of being Beelzebub after His drove away the demon from a mute person, He retorted back by saying, a kingdom fought among themselves cannot grow. Jesus also said, those who are not on my side are against me.

3) A sign (v.29 – 36)

On asking a sign by the people, Jesus said, no sign will be given except the sign of the prophet Jona. As Jona came out from the stomach of a whale after three days, so also, the Son of Man will rise up in the third day. The lamp in these verses refers to Jesus Christ who lights the world.

4) Critique to the Pharisees and Lawyers (v.37 – 54)

Regarding the main contention of unwashed hand before dinner, Jesus rebuke the Pharisees who are so much strict in observing traditions but misses out the priority in life, i.e., true love of God and truthfulness. These people are like an unmarked grave where people walk over it but do not know when they will fall into it. Jesus also strongly rebuked the lawyers as they took away the key of the spiritual discernment/wisdom but hindered those who want to enter it. As in our life also, we failed to retrospect ourselves, failed to discern the truth and the love of God, but judge ourselves by the works we did; this is a danger life we should avoid it!

Chapter 12,

1) Teaching the trust of God (v.1 – 12)

Jesus taught His disciples not to afraid those who can kill only the physical body but have no authority to decide where the soul should go; rather, afraid God who has the authority of deciding where the Soul should go. God has complete knowledge of our life, we should search His ways and humble to him with faith. We should trust Him and call His name so that God will show His way for us.

2) Wrongful richness (v.13 – 34)

We should not be busy mainly on foods or worldly things in our life. We should keep God as priority in every sphere of our life, rather than focussing solely on our selfish worldly things. Then, our (other) need will be given to us.

3) Be always guard yourself (v.35 – 59)

We should always guard ourselves and be ready always to meet Him whenever He comes to gather His children. Like a trusted treasurer in the verses, we should always true to our Lord and ready to meet Him.

Conclusion

God has given us many gifts, talent, expertise, etc. Let us use them for His glory. All the things we bought, viz., clothes, eatable items, etc., should be used for the glory of God. By this, we can show that we sustain our life for His purpose and glory. We should invest our life in the way God want us to be.

The Worship Service was closed with the Lord’s Prayer followed by doxology “Ka kikhopna uh”
