DORCAS DAY-CUM- ELECTION TO 3 POSTS OF UPA

EBCC DELHI | DWARKA, NEW DELHI

3rd AUGUST 2014 | 11:00AM

THEME: PUT YOUR HOUSE IN ORDER ~Isai 38:1(b)

Worship Team led the congregation in singing hymns and praises and led the Mass Prayer. Worship in offering was consecrated by Upa Kamsuanthang.

Conductor, Nu Haumuankim, mentioned a brief history of the Dorcas Department and how it has grown and served many in various ways, through an initiative called DORCEP. She mentioned generous contributors for prizes to be given off later among worthy contestants during the ensuing Dorcas Day observance. She read the scripture portion of Heb 1:1.

Pastor V. Nenglian Vualnam read the scripture Isaiah 38:1 and prayed for the all the ladies.

Thereafter, Rev. L. Kham Kholun, Director (Missions) shared the word of the Lord. He came from Dorcas Hall, Lamka to conduct the election of three elders (upa).

SERMON OF THE DAY:

THEME: ‘NA INSUNG OM DINGDAN GEL FEL IN' ~Isai 38:1(b)

Based on Isaiah 38:1; 2 Kings 20:1,2; and 2 Chronicles 32:24, Rev. L, Khamkholun reminded the congregation about the need to set one’s house in order. Soon after ascending the throne of Judah, King Hezekiah started reforming the Temple and the Kingdom, achieved great transformation within his Kingdom and there was abundance everywhere. However being bedridden, he was frankly told by God about his impending dead and the need to set his house in order. Even as he related the story of a King, he emphasised the dominant position of women in the family.

He further said that human needs can broadly be categorised into four:- 1) Physical growth 2) Mental growth 3) Spiritual growth and 4) Social growth.  God's word forms the core foundation to everything. He also elaborated that spirituality alone makes man civilised citing his own experiences during his hospitalisation earlier. Household administration is the toughest. Even though King Hezekiah was successful in ruling his country, he failed in his household administration. Parents play a very important role in the life of their children even in matters concerning their future, be it education or finding their life partner, etc.

ELECTION OF ELDERS:

  • Reverend L. Kham Kholun, Dir (Missions) was the Presiding Officer in the electioneering process. He was accompanied by the local Pastor as Assistant Presiding Officer and the 10 ordained Elders of EBCC Delhi as Polling Officers.
  • Reading out the scripture portion from Acts 14:21-23 and Titus 1:5, the Reverend stressed on the importance of the role of elders. He also mentioned about the positions of various church officials in different denominations.
  • EBCC Delhi has a total of 1032 members, consisting of 222 Primary members and 810. There were 78 outstation/disciplined members at that point of time. That has left 732 members eligible voters. Since the EBC Church bye-law requires 50% attendance as necessary quorum for such election, 366 full communicant members is a must. The Presiding Officers had the leave application of 85 eligible voters up his sleeve.Any shortage in number could have sent him back empty handed.
  • Polling Officers conducted the crucial headcount of eligible voters. And they reported their respective figures back to the Reverend. And the sum total stood at 382. The Quorum was fulfilled. Praise the Lord!
  • Pastor (Retd) V. Songkhothang prayed for the 6 shortlisted candidates. Then the primary election was held.
  • In the meantime, praise in music  and scripture recitations were led by the Dorcas Department. Recitation by Mrs Lalzami, resident of Munirka (from Naomi Group) of the entire 176 verses of Psalms 119 had the congregation spellbound.
  • As prescribed in the Church bye-law, the top scoring three Candidates, (1) Mr. Goukhangin T. (226 votes); (2) Mr. Ngulminthang L. (245 votes); and (3) Thangkhosiam T. (216 votes) had to pass through another round of voting, to determine whether they have the mandate of two-thirds majority. The exercise was resumed straightaway.
  • In between, the Prizes to worthy contestants of the Dorcas conference held the day before were distributed.
  • The Election Commission came with the verdict. All the three candidates had the love, trust and confidence of the Church. They were proclaimed elected and the Election was over. The newly elected candidates (for elders) will have to clear a written test examination as formality for being ordained and anointed Upa.

The gruelling session starting from 11 am and ending at 3 pm was concluded with prayer from the Presiding Officer
