Sermon
“What is Holy Communion/The Lord’s Supper?”
Reference: I Corinthians 11:23-32
The pastor spoke about two sacraments; 1.Baptisma and 2.Holy Communion
Baptism signifies the beginning of life in Christ. A person once baptized stays baptized his whole life. It need not be renewed. While on the other hand Holy Communion signifies belongingness in Christ and it needs to be done periodically.
Being baptised or partaking in Holy Communion does not mean that one’s sins are forgiven. This pardon can only be received through faith in Christ.
These two sacraments are associated with discipleship in Christ.
About the Lord’s Supper/HolyCommunion:-
- It began with Jesus Christ in the New Testament.
- It is to be observed often as is the command.
- Obeying of the command does not mean forgiveness of sins but rather means discipleship.
- It is done as an acknowledgement(witness) of Christ’s sacrifice.
- Communion bread and wine symbolise the flesh and blood of Christ, and unless they are used for this purpose they have no significance.
- No-one is worthy of partaking in Lord’s Supper but it is only because of God’s grace that we do.
- It is not to be misused as God’s judgment will befall upon those who misuse it. One should examine himself so that one does not sin.
The Pastor concluded his sermon with a prayer and dedicated the Holy Communion to God. The mass was presided by the Pastor and the local elders.
