Children’s Day Worship Service
June 22, 2014
The worship kicked off with Praise and Worship led by BCD Worship Team. A joyous day, bright and sunny, the congregation was filled with happiness and anticipation. The team led wonderful choruses of songs which then tagged on to offerings and prayer by Elder Khamkhanpau Guite.
The excitement can be seen by the number of special items from BCD. One after the other, melodious voices from Beginners with Primaries and Juniors with Seniors Batches echoed in the air. As the voices settled, the Superintendent, TBCD took his time sharing a brief report on the department. The report enlightened how much the Lord has blessed the church and how long we have come since its inception. The excitement continued when ZoKids took to stage followed by Zosangkim and Ngailian. No argument here that these kids have been given incredible talents and let’s pray for them that they utilize their talents for the glory of God.
The pastor took to stage with a blessing and prayer for the kids. He gave thanks to God for giving us this auspicious day, one of the most important days for us. He said that the Children’s Department is being taken very seriously by the appointment of Superintendent and other office bearers. Though we are no fully competent, God has been great and has given us teachers and workers who have sacrificed a lot to this responsibility.
He also said that BCD has been blessed with great talents as the choir depicts. Children when trained and guided in the right direction, God has good used for them. Therefore, even if it is hard in the beginning, we have to be strong for them and do our best in the process of this development.
With the New Year, the introduction of new courses for Primary and Junior, the responsibility of the teachers will increase immensely. Sharing the same course with one of the most developed church, the Bethlehem Church in United States; it becomes a challenge as well as a provocation to introduce advanced methods of teaching materials including classroom expansion and visual aids. For the same, we as a church and the teachers have more responsibilities than the current. We hope to achieve the same with God’s guidance and blessing.
India celebrates Children’s Day on the 14th of November. United Nations celebrates it on the 20th of November. But we chose to celebrate this day taking into account the Summer Vacation period of the children.
He threw open his sermon explaining the meaning of ‘Born Again’ with the secular term meaning ‘change’. Therefore a person being born again without any changes in his life, decisions and character may just be acquiring knowledge of the term. He further illustrated the concept with a story about a rich man who built a big new house by the beach. He thought, let me do it differently and instead of inviting his rich associates, invited children for the house warming party. When the time came, he asked each of the children what they wanted as gift. And as each of them chose different gifts and took it home, one of the kids would not. As the rich man approached him and asked why he would not choose any of the gifts, he said he doesn’t’ want any of them. The only thing he wanted is the rich man himself.
That is what it boils down to. We may have our eyes on the beautiful things and feel tempted by them. But in the end, we need to be wise to choose not them, but the one who owns them all, the master himself.
With this the pastor ended his speech and the worship ended with blessing prayer by Elder Damsomthang.
