Worship Leader JH Ginmung read from Philippians 2:7-11 and opened the Sunday morning service with a prayer. The worship team led the congregation in a few hymns after which, Elder T. Thiankhanmuan dedicated the offerings to the Lord.
Pastor T Lamkhanthang prayed over the congregation as it was the first Sunday of the month. He also made several announcements including introducing the theme of the month- Spiritual Warfare. He invited the church to weekday worships. BYF Secretary Lalboi Mangte was also given time to give a brief about the Youth Camp. In addition, the pastor mentioned that the doors were still open to donation for the camp.
Pastor Suankhanhau took over the next part of the service to teach the congregation, as it was Sunday School. Before he began with the lesson, he talked of the generous people used by God to bless the church.
This sunday school’s lesson was from Lesson 5, Galatians 3:1-25. The pastor divided it into 5 parts:
- Verses 1-5: Justified by faith and not works
- Verses 6-9: Abraham as an example of justification by faith
- Verses 10-12: The insufficiency of the Law for salvation
- Verses 15-18: Contrast between Law and Promise
- Verses 19-25: The purpose of Law
He compared that if contracts and agreements between men are rigid and solid, then a covenant with God is so much stronger than the agreements men make amongst each other.
The pastor elaborated on the word ‘foolish’ in the first verse. He explained how Paul said it out of love and from a place of good intentions. The next few verses posed a question about whether the people the letter is addressed to, received salvation from Christ because they followed the Law or because of their faith. The pastor highlighted that the real children of Abraham are those who are saved by Christ through faith and because of this, we can share Abraham’s blessings. He also stated that nobody can follow all the Laws hence, salvation through the Law is cursed as nobody can truly follow all that the Law requires. He the. introduced that Jesus became a curse for us to give us salvation. That is why faith through God’s grace is going to save us, not obedience to the Law.
The church then sang a hymn, led by the worship team. The service ended with Elder B. Langkham who closed the Sunday morning service with a prayer.
