The worship service began with an invocation of the Almighty and reading of Acts 1:11 and 2:1-4 by worship leader Thangkhanhau. After an uplifting praise and worship session, Upa Chinsum dedicated the offerings to the Lord.
Greeting the congregation on Pentecost day, pastor Suankhanhau also welcomed the first timers to the church. He then highlighted the prayer points which include the PPF-D programme to Aizawl and Lamka, reconciliation, peace and healing for our people and land, etc. and led the congregation in mass prayer.
The theme for the sermon was ‘Why God sent the Holy Spirit to indwell in man?’ Pastor Hau informed the congregation that Pentecost is a feast of the Jews that God made them observe to signify the coming of the Holy Spirit. Reading out Acts 2:1-4, he explained the meaning of ‘when the day of Pentecost had fully come’ as a fulfillment of Jesus’ promise in the book of John to send the Helper. Also explaining the meaning of ‘in one accord’, he stressed the need for believers to be of one mind to be filled with the Holy Spirit and for revival. Pastor Hau then expounded on the reasons for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit viz, to equip the believers to preach the Gospel with power; to equip the believers for witnessing/missions; to convict the world of sin and righteousness and judgement and as a Helper. He also talked about the results of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit which are manifested by visible changed lives, courage and the absence of fear as demonstrated by Peter and the disciples. At this juncture, he dwelt upon the need to introspect how much we have changed and how much we have grown in the likeness of Christ after receiving the seal of the Holy Spirit. He further said that if there is no change in our lives, may be, we have not received the Holy Spirit or are born again. Pastor Hau concluded his sermon with an exhortation to all believers to be witnesses of the Gospel as equipped by the Holy Spirit and bringing about changes in the lives of people through repentance and righteousness in Jesus Christ.
One last announcement regarding calling of applications for availing hostel and coaching facilities for the youths by EBC Headquarters under NDPN, was made. The worship service then concluded with prayer and benediction by Upa Kamsuanthang.
