Stewards in Finance

We thank the Lord for giving us this precious time and for being able to continue our lives. For those who are having a hard time in life, or illness, may the Lord heal you, bless you and give you the strength that you need. The roads that we have taken in our lives during these hard times, let us rethink and see if it is pleasing for the Lord. Most of us are blessed to have received a handsome amount of monthly income, so we would like to talk about how we can be a good keeper or stewards of our finances.

Every country has their own currency which may be of different values, but each one has their own importance. All kinds of people, the rich and the poor, we all need money. We can buy all sorts of things with money, but there are things which we cannot buy with money. In Luke 16:9 we can see that wealth or money is required even to make friends, which means that money has so many significance and we won’t be able to point out all of them. But one thing that we are certain is that we all need money and we need to search for it.

In Matthew 7:7, it is said that “Ask, and it will be given to you: seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” We are privileged enough that we can ask our God almighty whatever we need. In Haggai 2:8 the Lord has declared that the silver and the gold is his. The right place to search for prosperity is to our Creator. Even when the Lord gives us wealth, we shall always remember our God as he is the one who can give us those. (Deuteronomy 8:18)
Proverbs 16:8 says that it is better to have a little with righteousness rather than having great revenues with injustice. When money is earned the right way, God can help us make it sufficient for us rather than when earned the wrong way. Let us seek for prosperity the way the Lord wants us to, righteously, so that we can even set an example for others.

As we can see from 1Timothy 6:9-10 that the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, if we desire for riches so much despite the place where we get them, it can even shatter our relationship with God. If we see the life of Judas who sold Jesus for 30 silver, it is because of his desire for money that he sold his master. He then left his faith and there is no peace nor happiness in his life anymore, ultimately he hanged himself. Yes, we need money, but if we get them unrighteous, there will be no peace of mind and our faith will even be shattered.

We are blessed enough to have monthly incomes, and even some of us are living in our own flats in the capital. How far are we willing to extend our assets? Is it only for us or how far can we extend our riches? But this is not how our Lord wants us to be.
“One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers wants.” Proverbs 11:24
What we have should not be contained only for us, it should be shared to the needy, that’s the way the Lord wants us to do.

We may be self-sufficient and even earn bulky sums, but only God knows for how long that will last. So let us be thankful to the Almighty and let us not be hesitant to share because in 2Corinthians 9:9 “As it is written: ‘They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor, their righteousness endures forever”

Joseph is a good steward in finances according to the Lord. He was despised by everyone, even his brothers and he was a servant. He’s been to jail and taken out from it because the King needs to translate his dream and Joseph is capable of translating dreams because God gave him wisdom. Because of him, Egypt has enough food during the famine.

Like Joseph, you can be the channel to other’s blessing. So whatever blessings and riches we have, let us not be selfish and keep it to ourselves. If we did not satisfy God, he has the authority to take away even what we already had. Let us be very careful on how we get our incomes, assets and also we have to be wise in how we spend our money. Let us retrospect if the way we spend our money is pleasing in the eyes of God? Will he be satisfied with how we share the needy?
