Sermon of Pastor G Khankham
Firstly I want to thank our Father in Heaven for bringing my family and I here in the capital to give my first sermon. I am from Mualnuam village. My family and I give you greetings.
General introduction about the Pastor and his family
We are here in the capital city either because of our livelihood, our money, our patents, etc. We are truly blessed by the grace of God. This year’s theme is ‘Faithful Guardian’- Kemtu Muanhuai. When we think of this line we realize our shortcomings. [Corinthians 4:1-2] When I think about myself, I think about how others would think of me. Other people won’t even know me even through my father because my father was neither famous nor educated. Neither am I. I am not good looking, a singer or a star. So tell me how do you want others to know you as either educated? Scholarly? Wealthy?
Paul said, “We want to be known as the keepers of God’s secrets and workers for Christ.” Paul cannot even complain that his salary is low or he wants to quit it when he became a servant of Christ for he was truly the keeper of God’s words. We may be as of now servants of our government or keepers of secrets of the place we work for. Our responsibilities may be aplenty. But what we truly are is that we are keeper of God’s words.
Do we keep His words in a healthy way or have tainted it with time? Keeping His words between lovers, partners, marriage and family or between our colleagues. We are keepers of God’s words first just as Paul declared proudly that he was a servant of Christ. And he wanted everyone to know through his actions, ways and how he dressed that showed that he was a servant of Christ.
[Genesis 18:9] Joseph found favour in his earthly master Potiphar. So are we really trustworthy for others and found favour from our heavenly Father? [1 Kings 2; Isaiah 49:15] God will never forget how He took care of us.
There was a time when I was walking through the mud and hilly terrain, but now, by the eternal grace of God I am able to fly in an airplane from Imphal to New Delhi with my family. Praise be to our God. Our Father in heaven who never grows weary of taking care of us day and night but we grow weary even helping others. Truly, we will never be on par with God’s goodness. [Psalm 121:1-8]
Let us take care of our congregation just like how God has been taking care of us. Let us not slip and fall but ask God to keep us safe. When we doze off spiritually, our hearts fall and so do our ways. Let us walk together as a family in Christ so that no one is left behind. I am happy because our God, the good LORD will protect us from the bad things that can happen to us. Our God who doesn’t want His children to go hungry even for three days would surely want what is best for us (referring to the feeding of 4000 by Jesus Christ). God has always kept us safe so that we keep His words safe. And let us practice this safekeeping and become true servants of Christ.
