BYF Day message : Letter to Laodicean Church, one of the Seven churches of Asia in the Book of Revelation

Revelation 3:14-22
The letter can be seen from chapter 2 till chapter 3. It started with Ephesia and ended with the Laodicean church, the church with nothing praiseworthy. The author introduced himself and also addressed the church with the words of faithfulness and true witness. This is followed with their condition of being lukewarm and to be spat out of the mouth.
It is usually inferred that hot is positive and cold is negative, however, this is not the case. As there is water issue in Laodicea, it draws water from the hot spring in Thyatira and cold spring in Philadelphia. What Jesus said about the hot and cold water is that hot is for cure and cold is for rest/comfort. Jesus warned about being lukewarm. The Laodiceans are described as poor, naked and blind.
Laodicea is a rich city, near the sea with They produced a world-famous salve, reputed to cure certain kinds of eye diseases. It also produced glossy, black wool that was prized by the wealthy all over the world.
They are rich materially but blind spiritually. While you say you are rich, “I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.” Your worldly riches will not last.
Being in the centre of India, Delhi, are we rich spiritually or be seen as an empty and poor church by God? Personally, are we spiritually sound, have words to share with family, have devotional time? This is for us to ponder today. What will Jesus say if He was to send a letter to us/our church? Are we a spiritually blind church, leading the blind congregation? The people of Laodicea doesn’t even realize they are naked. Are we the same? Are we rich materially, but have nothing to give spiritually?
Let us open up the windows of our heart. He wants us to take from Him the refined gold, salve to cure eye diseases and clothes to cover our nakedness.
