The Utmost Priority for the Healing of the Land & Nation
~ Pastor H. Biakson
“This world can be saved from political chaos and collapse by one thing only, and that is open-hearted worship."
"To worship is to quicken the conscience by the holiness of God, to feed the mind with the truth of God, to purge the imagination by the beauty of God, to open the heart to the love of God, to devote the will to the purpose of God.” ~ William Temple
The above quotations by William Temple (Archbishop of Canterbury) shines a light on how a troubled nation can be redeemed through open-hearted worship, acceptance and submission to the Lord.
In Nehemiah 1: 1-11, we see that when Nehemiah learns about the distressed state of his province, he weeps and mourns for many days. He fasts and prays to the Lord God of Heaven and confesses that he and his fellow Israelites have sinned against the Lord and begs for his mercy.
It's important to note that Nehemiah counted himself among the sinners while praying for forgiveness for his nation. He begs pardon for dealing corrputly against God and for disobeying the commandments and hopes to heal his beloved province through God's promise as seen in 2 Chronicles 7:14 "if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."
So, what can we do for our nation?
We must walk in the way of the Lord, never slide away from our faith and repent for the sins we've all committed over the time. Learning from Nehemiah and the Israelites, it's every individual's responsibility to stay true to our worship to the Lord with the purest heart and soul and to trust him to set it all right.
