Dorcas and Mother’s Day Message: Rev. Paukhanmang Guite
Set Your House In Order, Worship With Good Deeds (Isaiah 38:1-3, Psalms 127:3)
“Set your house in order” is an important commandment by God to Hezekiah, king of Judah. On this Mother’s Day, this was, is and will always be an important commandment. For mothers, there is nothing more worthy of worshipping with good deeds than to set your house in order.
Lessons to learn from the commanded Hezekiah, king of Judah.
1. Hezekiah was appointed by God to be the king of Judah
With the help of God, he did his best for his people, defeated his enemies, brought peace and prosperity in the land of Judah. God’s appointment to mothers in the church and family is very important and they are also the queens of the house. With the grace of God, the fruits of whatever small steps taken in the family, society and church are noticeable.
2. Hezekiah finds he did well and is successful in the eyes of God and fellow beings (Isaiah 38:3)
In the eyes of God and fellow being, he was truthful, has a perfect heart and did what is good. He wanted good for his people and worked for the same. However, he missed to set his own house in order.
Mothers may think that they are truthful, trustworthy and work their best in the eyes of God and fellow beings…and my even take pride in that. However, the most important is to sit down and talk to Jesus (Luke 10:38-42)
3. Hezekiah ignored his most important commandment
As he ignored the most important commandment, to set his house in order, he faced God’s warning in his dying days.
Many mothers are satisfied with their contribution in church and society that they ignored their most important commandment and we often face God’s warning after it’s too late. (1 Kings 21-22)
4. God doesn’t assign a more important work than to set your house in order
Children are heritage from God and the only reward and that where your treasure is, so is your heart (Psalm 127:3, Matthew 6:19-21, Job 1:5)
Susannah Wesley is an exemplary mother with 10 children, who apart from everything else sees setting her house in order her most important priority. She set daily routine for her children, besides having 1 hour one on one session once a week. Two of her sons are successful and renowned evangelists. (Esther 4:14-17)
Conclusion:
As quoted by Pope John Paul II, “As the family goes, so goes the nation and so goes the whole world in which we live,” rather than how we see ourselves or how people see us, it is most important to reflect on the spiritual status of our family and children. (1 Samuel 30:6-18)
