SERMON ON PRAYER OF JABEZ → Rev. Dr. Kh. Khaizakham
Text : 1 Chronicles 4:9 & 10.
Today’s sermon centers upon a man named Jabez seen in the Old Testament. Jabez was raised by his mother. He got his name because of the pain and suffering he caused to his mother during his birth. Jabez is seen only on two verses of the whole Holy Bible. His story is written very briefly; yet, moral lessons can be learned from his prayer.
Jabez's Prayer includes 4 types, as
1. Prayer for Blessings
2. Prayer to enlarge his territories
3. Prayer to hold him with His hands
4. Prayer to keep him safe from evil.
Our life’s blueprint is very important. We might have a very humble background. We might have come from a miserable family and our lives might have been through a number of distressing situations. Yet, those things should never hold us down. Jabez’s distressing backgrounds could not deter him to lose his relationship with God. He prayed to God for the expansion of his land. And not only that, he also prayed seeking God’s presence in his life.
Of course, we often pray to God, asking His blessings, for prosperity and for many other more. Yet, we tend to forget God in times of health and prosperity. It is very easy to forget Him when one feels one can do things on one’s own. Many a times we committed mistakes by ignoring Him. As we pray to God for our wellbeing, we should also remember to keep healthy relationship with Him. Jebez’s desperate prayer is quite a lesson for believers. We should continue to trust in the Lord while praying to Him with all our heart.
As we look around back home, we realize that people now more or less have the same educational qualifications and skills. To be successful amongst people of the same qualifications, we need to have divine guidance from God. We must also conduct ourselves to honor God. We must put our talents for the extension of His kingdom. We must always take heed to feel the importance of God’s presence even after He blesses us. We should live not only to be successful in life but to live significantly. We should also ponder upon whether we would be missed after we left this word.
