Being the first Sunday in the month of February, 2019, Pastor Biakson conducted pastoral prayers for the congregations, followed by a Sermon based on “Worship, pleasing and acceptable to God” (Romans 12:1-2) which is also the theme of EBC for the year 2019.
Pastor, to drive home the importance of worship, quoted William Temple who says “This world can be saved from potential chaos and collapse by one thing; it is not by wise leadership, unconditional love and liberal generosity but only by open hearted worship”.
Why is there a need for true and proper worship? Many a times, the act of worship we offer to God is not to please Him but to serve and perpetuate our own interest that seems to be the norm in our society. This kind of worship is abominable to Him. Our worship needs to be acceptable and pleasing to Him.
What is Worship acceptable and pleasing to God? Offering our bodies as a living sacrifice is one such act of worship. To humble and surrender ourselves before Him should be our way of worship. To be obedient to follow God’s will and surrendering our heart and mind is an act of Worship.
Why should we offer a living sacrifice to God? Because of His mercies, we are to worship God. God has abundantly blessed us. It is wrong to focus only on those things that He has given us, and forget the One who blessed us. We should have a right attitude so that we can offer true and proper worship to Him.
Everything is created to serve His purpose. We were bought with the blood of Jesus. Therefore, our body is not our own. We cannot use it as we please. Our body should glorify God.
It is important that we always feed our mind with God’s word. We have to be careful with our thoughts as it can become our words, our words actions, our actions habits, our habits character, our character our destiny.
True and proper worship should be our daily way of life. When our daily way of life is pleasing and acceptable to God, we will be able to have a transformed and renewed way of life. A happy family, an orderly society and a healthy Church will follow suit.
