Siamsinna A Diktatna (loose translation: Righteousness in Learning)

Upa H Kam Suanthang spoke on the theme ‘Siamsinna A Diktatna’ - a discourse on why and how one must always be on the path of righteousness as a student or perhaps as a working youth because one is always a learner, a siamsin, and because as a learner of things, one is either learning something righteous (diktatna), or something equally unrighteous and there is no in-between. The speaker explained that the endof righteousness in learning has been shown at 2 Timothy 2:15 with the means to achieve that end as making effort ceaselessly. 2 Timothy 2:15 says: ‘Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.’ The books of Timothy are actually teachings and instructions written to Timothy by Paul the Apostle, in helping Timothy learn and grow in righteousness as a young evangelist. There is simply no alternative to the Word of God because it is written so in the book of Hebrews that the Word of God is alive and always true. It is first important then to have one’s every action rooted in Christ, as all things become significant only with the Lord, and no effort becomes worth its while otherwise. Lessons on perseverance can be learned from the lives of Moses and King David, who faced countless tests and setbacks, which were in fact trainings imparted to them by God, before they went on to become great leaders of the people of Israel. The life of a learner is characterised by self-management which is a substitute for time-management, defined priorities, understanding of one’s own self - knowing why one is where one is right now and what one’s capabilities are, and, faithfulness over what little or plenty one has. The speaker exhorted the congregation to make the most of one’s youth, and impressed upon all to do an extensive and intensive Bible study while one is young and not overwhelmed by the responsibilities and other obligations of a married life.
