The Worship Service started with the Local Pastor reading Psalms 95 and having the opening prayer. Led by the Worship Team, the Congregation sang  the hymns “Lungdam Lua Ing Toupa” and “Khovel a ka Len Sung in” followed by mass prayer. The congregation then sang “Aw Pasian Nang Lou” and “Toupa zaw ka Belampu Ahi” during which the ushers collected the offerings. The Pastor then had the Offertory Prayer, dedicating the offerings to the Lord.

Mr. Daizachin and Mr.Thangbiaksuan, Missionaries of EBC who had undergone field experience/training under Friends Missionary Prayer Band (FMPB) presented their experience reports. Firstly, Mr.Daizachin shared his experiences of working as a missionary in Shimla District of Himachal Pradesh. He began by saying that he was called to serve the Lord on 18 May, 2012 and was sent for his mission in Himachal Pradesh. The local people, he said, are still very backward and superstitious. They work hard, but do not give too much importance to schooling. They worship the spirits of their forefathers. Mass evangelism is not practicable and his work is based on individual evangelism. There are a large number of cases of people possessed by the evil spirit and by praying for them for 2/3 hours, he was able to drive the evil spirits out. After that, they were converted to Christianity. Whoever becomes a Christian becomes excommunicated and are made to suffer a lot as a result. He said that persecution of Christians is rampant. He thanked the congregation for their prayers and support.

Mr.Thangbiaksuan of Punjab Mission Field also gave his report. He said that he started his mission in Punjab from 2 July, 2012 and that he had visited more than 400 villages/cities in Punjab. He found out that the people of Punjab are very open and receptive to the word of Christ and Christianity. They worked by showing films of Jesus Christ on the streets and thereafter telling the spectators about the word of the Living Christ. He said that by the grace of God, he was able to survive the whole 3 months he spent in Punjab without any illness. He thanked the congregation for their prayers.

The Local Pastor then had his customary monthly Pastoral Prayer which was held on the first day of every month. Rev.J.M.Paupu, was the main speaker for the day’s service. He based his sermon on Mark 2:1-12 and spoke on what he called the “Roof Breakers”. The Bible passage talks about Jesus’ visit to Capernaum. When people heard about it, they gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Rev.J.M.Paupu talks about the faith of what he called the “roof breakers”, the people who broke the roof and who got Jesus to heal the paralysed man. He makes three important points:

  1. We should be full of love. If you love only your neighbours or your close ones, it is not the true Christian way. He said Delhiites should not gain monetary benefit only from you and that you should do good deeds. You can tell the Good Word to them.
  2. We should have co-operation. To defeat the empire of the Devil, we should all join hands and co-operate. He said that the Devil works in subtle ways. It is not only through the drug dealer but through people in the church that the Devil works. He also said that while working as a missionary, we should not aim for denominational expansion but work for the expansion of the Kingdom of Christ. He said that people in Delhi are also tentmakers and that God has put us in Delhi so that we can spread the Word of God.
  3. There is no such thing his impossible, its Him Possible. Through the Lord, through Him, everything is possible. He also said that with times, the way we worship will have to change. We have to be creative and daring. He said there are two types of healing-through our own faith, and through other’s faith like the paralysed man in the passage mentioned. Parents have a great duty with respect to their children. Christians are not those who are perfect, but those who have been saved by Jesus Christ.

Muanching then presented the song “Nang Phatna La” after which the Local Secretary, Upa Kamsuanthang made some important announcements. The congregation then rose to sing “Jesu Kiang Gen Ning” and the Worship Service ended with closing prayer and benediction by the Local Chairman, Upa Damsawmthang.
