MISSIONARY DAY, EBCC DELHI
Date: 5 May, 2013 (Sunday)
Time: 11 A.M.
Place: EBC Church, Nasirpur, New Delhi
EBC celebrates Missionary Day on 7th May every year. However, it is celebrated on 5th May, 2013 in Delhi as 7th May is a weekday/working day. The Day is celebrated under the auspices of the Missions Committee. Missions Committee Member Pu Biaklun Shoute conducted the proceedings/service and had the opening prayer. Praise and Worship was led by the Worship Team which is then followed by Mass Prayer.
The Missions Committee, led by the Local Pastor, had visited the Punjab Mission Field from the 19th April, 2013. Pu D.Kamkhanmang and Pu N.Vumsuan gave a report on this field visit. Pu D.Kamkhanmang gave a brief account of the field visit and reported that the Christians of Punjab pray very hard. They gave very big importance to Praise & Worship and during church service, singing praises is given much importance. He concluded by saying that it is a privilege to have been associated with teh Punjab Mission Field and that they need our prayers.
Pu N. Vumsuan started his report by quoting Matthew 28:19, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”. He reported that the bike and PA system given by EBCC Delhi is being utilized to the full extent in the Punjab Mission Field. He reported that we are working mainly amongst the Punjabis who are working in the farm/agricultural land of Non-Resident Punjabis. Therefore, they look highly to those who can speak/converse in English and that this is a very big advantage of working amongst them. Speaking of their faith, he made the distinction that when we fall ill, we take medicine hoping that it will work its magic. But in Punjab, they buy medicines and then bring them to church for the Pastor to pray and dedicate the medicines to the Lord. He expressed his wish that an English Medium School be opened out there. He also stated that they need a projector for showing Biblical films/movies and stressed on their need for an inverter and microphone stand. He ended his report by challenging the congregation to do what it can for the needs of the people of Punjab Mission Field.
Munirka Choir presented their special number/item which was followed by the showing of video footage of the visit to Punjab Mission Field (21 minutes).
The Local Pastor then delivered his Missionary Day Message. He read out I Peter 2:9-12. He asked the question, “What is Missions; what comes to mind when Missions work is talked about?”. He stated that God is a Missions God and that Missions is one of the attributes of God. He also stated that the ultimate goal of the Churches is worship. He explains Missions as two things:
(i) Proclamation/Declaration and
(ii) Witnessing
He stated that in EBC, when we talk about Missions, it is the first explanation/activity that we usually talk about and give precedence to. We usually ignore the witnessing part and we envisage the work of the Missions Committee to mean the former/first.
He elaborated on the attributes of believers as:
(i) Choosen people
(ii) Royal Priesthood
(iii) Holy Nation and
(iv) People of God
He stated that witnessing is also a part of Missions. There are some who will go out and preach the Gospel, and some who will stay where we are and become witnesses.
After the Missionary Day Message, offerings were collected to help the Punjab Mission Field. The Service ended with benediction by Upa Kamsuanthang.
