“But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” Our brothers and sisters in Christ, Mr & Mrs V Dingpu and Mr & Mrs L Vungzakap, seeks blessings of the Lord for their daughter and son, Pastoral prayer to bless their daughter and son.
Pastors’ wives’ seminar report heard from Nu Ruati w/o Pastor V Nenglian. She reports out of all 63 pastors’ wives within EBCC 48 can participate in this seminar. The theme is taken from Jeremiah 48:18.
Sunday School conducted by Pastor V Nenglian.
Before entering into today’s syllabus he gave a brief summary of Matthew 13-20 (which was taught in the previous Sunday School).
Matthew 13: We find the parable of the sower.
Mathew 14: We find how John the Baptist was beheaded because of Herod the tetrarch. We also find Jesus feeding the five thousands and Jesus walks on the water.
Matthew 15: We find the faith of a Canaanite woman for whose great faith in God her daughter was healed and also Jesus feeding the four thousands.
Mathew 16: Here we find the Pharisees and the Sadducees demanding Jesus for a sign from heaven. Who Jesus is and how Peter declares that Jesus is a Messiah. In this chapter we also find how we can become the followers of Christ.
Matthew 17: In this we find the transfiguration of Jesus before Peter, James and John the brother of James where his face shone like the sun and his clothes become as white as the light. At that moment Mosses and Elijah appeared before them.
Matthew 18: Here we find different parables like the wandering sheep, dealing with sin in the Church, unmerciful servant.
Matthew 19: In this chapter we find Jesus talking about divorce and the consequences. “I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.” (Matthew 19:9) We can also find the rich and the Kingdom of God. “Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” (Mathew 19:23&24)
Matthew 20: Here we find the parable of the workers in the vineyard. Jesus says “whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave”.
MAIN SUNDAY SCHOOL SYLLABUS MATTHEW 21-24
“For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (Matthew 23:12)
Matthew 21: Here in this chapter we find Jesus’ victory from spiritual warfare and how He comes to Jerusalem as a King riding on a donkey. “The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted
“Hosanna to the Son of David!”
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Hosanna in the highest heaven!” (Matthew 21:9)
We also find Jesus at the Temple and how he drove away all those who bought and sold in God’s Temple. “Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer, but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’” (Matthew 21:12&13). It shows the power of Jesus Christ. Found also here is how Jesus cursed the Fig Tree. Jesus tells his disciples to have faith as faith is the key to do miracles. “Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”” (Matthew 21:21&22). If we look further down we find the authority of Jesus being questioned and the parable of two sons. Without repentance we can never enter the Kingdom of God. “...... Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did.” (Matthew 21:31&32) We can also see the parable of the Tenants.
Matthew 22: In this chapter we see the parable of the Wedding Banquet. This parable taught us although God’s love is abundance we must ask ourselves whether we truly got the love of God. “But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. He asked, ‘How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?’ The man was speechless. “Then the king told the attendants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ “For many are invited, but few are chosen.” (Matthew 22:11-14) We also see paying the imperial tax to Caesar. “.....“So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”” (Matthew 21:21) We also find Marriage at the resurrection. When Jesus was questioned about marriage at the resurrection he replied “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. But about the resurrection of the dead—have you not read what God said to you, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.” (Matthew 22:29-32) We also found the question about the greatest commandment and Jesus’ answer to it is “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.” (Matthew 22:37) Then we also find question rose as to whose son is the Messiah.
Matthew 23: In this chapter we find warning against hypocrisy. “For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (Matthew 23:12) We also learned from this chapter that Jesus cried over Jerusalem. “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. Look, your house is left to you desolate. For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’” (Matthew 23:37-39)
Matthew 24: In this chapter we found the destruction of the Temple and Signs of the end times. “...Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.” (Matthew 24:2) The day and hour of when Messiah will come is unknown to everyone except the Father. “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” (Matthew 24:36) “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.” (Matthew 24:42)
At this time of misery and nearness of the world end people who seeks God and are ready to meet God were the luckiest persons and all of us must prepare oneself for that. In this world there were lots of principles but the only true principle is the Word of God, one must read the Bible and acquaint oneself with the Word of God. It is our work to follow the rules of a true believer as we are a true believer of God. When Jesus entered Jerusalem riding on a donkey a large crowd celebrate his victory but there were, among the crowds, some groups of people who does not know who Jesus was ... everyone in the congregation should ask oneself “in which group of people do I belong ...”. With this note the preacher ended the Sunday School session.
