12th August Congregation Worship Service: Freshers’ Welcome

Conductor: Thangzasiam Paite

Rec. Secy: Niang muan hoih

Chosen verse: Deuteronomy 28:13

And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them”

The worship songs, “Phatna la sa in”, “Zogam lei nibang tang hen”, “Toupa hon bia ing”, “ Nuntom pakpalh bang”, were sung by the congregation led by the worship team.

Upa Kamsuanthang said the offertory prayer, followed by a welcome speech from the conductor  as well as the Chairman of the BYF. The Baptist Youth Fellowship Committee members were introduced and they also presented a welcome choir for the freshers.

An introduction of the 40 freshers was made by the Evangelism Department of the local BYF. The Pastor, V. Nenglian, gave a motivational speech, asking them to always remember their purpose in coming to this city. He says that cities are the gate-way to opportunities, both for progress and regress. It is up to every individual to realize their dreams or to get carried away by the many temptations that a metropolitan environment offers. In a metro-city good and evil are two extremes that are equally accessible and the trajectory which our life travels on depend upon one’s own discretion. Many have prospered and many have been swept away. The Pastor then  prayed for the freshers asking God to be their guide and keeper, as they begin a new phase in their young lives.

The members from outside Delhi who have come to grace the service, Upa Tualzanang from Dorcas Veng and Ginlianthang from Chennai were introduced to the congregation

The Pastor then began his sermon with a reference to the verse, Deuteronomy 12: 29-32:-

29 When the Lord thy God shall cut off the nations from before thee, whither thou goest to possess them, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their land;30 Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.31 Thou shalt not do so unto the Lord thy God: for every abomination to the Lord, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods.32 What thing so ever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.”

He points out the three basic rules God has laid down for his people in a foreign land.

  1. The first command that God gives us is to beware-
    1. lest we be caught in a trap in the pursuit of worldly things
    2. lest we fail in achieving the purpose we set out to fulfill
    3. lest we follow after the ways of the worldly-wise who look at their     surroundings first and bend their principles to accommodate their desires.
  2. The second command that God gives us is to never compromise the faith that we have in Him. In our endeavours to get ahead in life we must never bend our faith, for the lord implicitly commands us to ‘not add..nor diminish from it’.
  3. The third command that God gives us his to obey his decrees. God’s children must build their life on the foundation of God’s words. We must obey and do what He asks of us and refrain from doing that which He forbids, for the Lord our God commands it.
