Worship Service Write-up

Palm Sunday Worship Service 2015

Hosanna! Hosanna in the highest!

The dawn of the day welcomed us with shouts of praise for our saviour. The only one day throughout the year where we really shout out praises to our Prince of Peace.Young and old,all delighted to come together for shouts of joy.And yes,we are proud indeed to have him as our Saviour!

It was an exciting day for us,the congregation gathered up slowly and filled our worship. The programme commenced at 11:00 am in the morning and at 3:00pm in the evening, with the worship team leading the congregation with songs of praise and warming our hearts up for the day’s message. The BCD also joined us shouting HOSANNA and enlightening us with the song “Hosanna,Hosanna in the highest” in the morning and the BYF presented a beautiful choir “Jesus of Nazareth passeth by” in the evening service. It was truly beautiful to see such young hearts shouting and singing his praise!

SERMON:

Our much awaited sermon came from our Pastor Nenglian. He once again made us understand the true meaning of “Hosanna” which is a “Greek expression of victorious slogan” and the Hebrew word “Hosan” meant “Save us”;this Hebrew word further added with the suffix “-na”,a greek word which is a sign of exaltation or praise gives the word HOSANNA.

The sermon was based on Luke19:37-38, where we can see the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem-which included the taking of the colt at the exact place where he had mentioned, people spreading out their clothings or branches of palm for his path and not to forget the shouts of praise amidst it all.Zechariah 9:19 also states that the triumphant entry of Jesus to the holy city,to fulfill what God had destined him to.They considered Jesus to be the Messiah to redeem them from the rule of the Romans. The Pharisees were jealous of him that they were whispering and complaining to Jesus to rebuke them to which he replied “if they stop, even the stones will shout out”Luke 19:39.The Judah leaders said that it is better to lose a man than to lose a whole nation because of him.But all that Jesus had in mind was to fulfill his purpose of his coming on earth and to rescue what was lost.In Acts1:6,Jesus was questioned by his disciples whether he is going to restore the kingdom to Israel.

APPLICATION:

  • We should live our lifes according to Jesus’ footsteps and that God has a purpose for each and everyone of us;none of us is worthless.
  • Jesus did not come to set up a government or kingdom but rather to save and redeem us.
  • Inorder to fulfil the mission of God,he sacrifice his life leaving behind every earthly desire he had.

REFLECTING BACK..

  • Do we all know the purpose of our lives today?
  • Do we even care to know?
  • Do we choose to be like Jesus knowing our purpose and mission?
