Sermon by: Pastor Khamkhanchin of Zion EBCC (former Local Pastor of EBCC Delhi)

Topic: When we see/meet God, how does it affect our life?

Based his sermon on the following two Bible verses:

John 14:15-18

If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

Isaiah 6:1-8

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty;

    the whole earth is full of his glory.”

At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”

Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”

And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

Some highlights of the sermon:

“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”

― A.W. Tozer in his book, The Knowledge of the Holy

  • In Old Testament times, when the Lord wants to do something, the Holy Spirit visits the people and guide them to do specific things, but does not reside with them forever. However, in New Testament times, the Holy Spirit resides with every believer forever. If we understand this clearly, there is no reason why believers should feel lonely, or live in fear.
  • Tragedies happen. We cannot control what is happening to the world around us. But we can control how we respond to those circumstances. And since the Holy Spirit is always with us and reside in us, we are never alone. Help and hope is always there. What is important is where do we look, where do we take our next step? When King Uzziah died, Isiah looked beyond the tragedies and sufferings and saw God. When he saw God, he began to see himself. He saw that he is nothing in front of the Almighty God. When he had that realization, God saved him.

Upa G Khamkhanpau closed the service with prayer.
