Worship Service Write-up

Good Friday Service | Pastor G. Khankham | April 15, 2022 | 11:00 AM

GOOD FRIDAY HOLY COMMUNION SERVICE

Worship leader N. Thangkhanhau read out Isaiah 53:5 and commit the worship service to the Lord. After an uplifting praise and worship session and collection of offerings, ordained elder G. Khamgoupau dedicated the offerings to the Lord.

Pastor G. Khankham thanked God and gave Him the glory for the opportunity to come together in church in observance of Good Friday this year, after a gap of two years. While explaining the significance of Good Friday, he talked about how sin separate us from God and leads to destruction. He also explained about  sins which can be forgiven and sins which are unforgiveable and exhorted the congregation to steer away from sins.

The Holy Communion or the Lord’s Supper is a commandment that Jesus gave while on earth to do in remembrance of Him (Luke 22:19-20). As we prepare for Holy Communion, we need to ask ourselves how Jesus wants to be remembered and what we should remember about Him. Briefly touching upon God’s covenant with Noah signified by the Rainbow, the Passover feast and the anointing of Jesus by a woman with the alabaster jar, Pastor asked the congregation to reflect on what they have done for the Lord to remember during their short sojourn on this earth.

Highlighting four of the seven sayings of Jesus on the cross - ‘Father, forgive them for they know not what they are doing’; ‘Truly I say to you, you will be with me in Paradise today’; ‘I am thirsty’ and ‘My God, my God why have you forsaken me?’, Pastor explained that even as He suffered on the cross, Jesus was still busy loving people and saving souls. He challenged the congregation with the words, ‘How can we not remember His sacrifice?’ and urged everyone not to allow themselves to live under the yoke of sin.

Pastor then gave thanks for the bread and wine and prayed that it would bring healing – physically and spiritually and joy to the weary soul. After he explained the significance of the bread which is Christ’s body bruised and broken for our sins and the wine which is His blood, shed to cleanse us from our sins, the congregation prayerfully partook the Lord’s Supper.

The Worship Service ended with prayer and benediction by ordained elder Chinsum.
