#  Sharing : Good news and One Thing, by Prayer Cell Convenor, Elder Chinsum.

He encouraged everyone to meditate on the goodness, faithfulness and Grace of God, all this time, and that we are celebrating the fact of Christ’s birth and not his birthday, as it is not specifically found in the Bible. Christ is the Alpha and Omega revealed to us through the Bible (John 1:1, Hebrews 1:1).

  • GOOD NEWS AND ONE THING:
  • David seeked to see God’s glory and desired to forever dwell in his presence and therefore God called him the man after His own heart ( 1 Samuel 13: 14, Acts 13: 22).
  • In the conversation between Jesus and the rich young man ( Matthew 19: 16-22), Jesus was convicting the man of his unnecessary concerns and that following Jesus means giving up everything.
  • Mary has rightly chosen the One Thing, while, Martha was bothered by so many other things, that she missed out on the most important thing (Luke 10: 40-42).
  • Paul chose to forget the things behind and reach forward to things which are ahead, to attain the goal for which he was called (Phil 3: 13, 14).

The above discussion sums up the One Thing that we should seek as it matters for eternity.

COVID-19 AND THE GOOD NEWS

  • The Good News is for all, irrespective of status and faith, sinners, the downtrodden, despised, lowly.
  • The Covid-19 is a dreaded disease that elicits fear and self-reflection in every individual.
  • In the same way, the advent of Christ involves some kind of fear among the witnesses- i) Joseph (Matthew 1: 20,21), ii) Mary (Luke 1: 30) and iii) the Shepherds ( Luke 2: 10). However, when God speaks to them, he starts by saying “fear not”. God’s way of visit comes in unfavourable and unpleasant circumstances , yet he seems to do so only to his favoured children whom he knows very well, like when he addressed Joseph (Matthew 1: 20), as the Son of David and Mary as the highly favoured (Luke 1: 28) . Another instance of fear was that of Joseph from the Old Testament (Genesis 37:3), who was in a very unfavourable circumstance, while at the same time being the most favoured son of Jacob. The kind of people God chooses to speak to are usually the ones who are downtrodden and lowly ( carpenter , virgin and shepherds). Therefore, it is imperative to seek God’s will and listen to his voice even in unfavourable circumstances such as pandemic, death, or any other circumstances that can befall us.
