Monthly Pastoral prayer for November by Pastor Thuamminlian

Sermon by Pastor G. Khankham.

Oftentimes we woke up to the stirring news of the rising cases caused by COVID and a definite disruption of our normal rhythms that we all have been used to. The rhythms of being able to physically gather together in a church and worship the Lord together, the rhythms of being able to meet our everyday needs and not being so much conscious of the air we breath as such. Well, this period of uncertainty is also a gentle reminder for us to discern the credentials of God as the provider and the greatest Healer.

Text : II Corinthians 6:17-18

If you look at what’s happening with the world, it shows as if every solution narrows down to looking out after yourself and be more self-conscious. Adorning ourselves with good clothes is a good thing. It makes us feel presentable to the people around us. But we must know that God’s image in us runs deeper than this mere custom dresses.

1. Genesis 2:7
“God formed man of the dust of the ground..”
“...breathed into his nostrils the breath of life…”

2. John 15:5
“I am the vine, you are the branches…”

3. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17
“...you are God's temple…”

This shows how our worth and lives are connected to our Creator, how we are to remain in Him and bear fruits and how the whole is not prior to part and each part has an important role to play.

Who shall change our carnal body, that we may be fashioned up to the standards of the world? Or, are we not called to come out from such vile practices like tattooing of the body and be separated? (Leviticus 19:28, II Corinthians 6:17) What spiritual qualities can be drawn out from the separation of the two sons - Ishmael and Isaac?

God also called out Abraham to SEPARATE from his family because of their idol worship. God also told Joshua to take away an accursed thing present in in the midst of the people before facing their enemy. Lot chose the land that was close to Sodom (Sin dweller) and Abraham settled in the land of Canaan, further away from them. Rahab made a covenant with God’s people rather than the heathen unbelievers around her. She and her families were protected by God from the ultimate destruction of Jericho City.

This shows the places and the circumstances around us we choose to stay is not something we can left unattended, like as if it is unimportant with our spiritual warfare. This is a serious truth that will affect the dynamics and the flourishing of our faith.

Pastor concluded the sermon by requesting this song "Jesu a lawmhoih i neihdan" (What a friend we have in Jesus) to remind ourselves that Jesus is a good friend whom we can share everything totally and trust Him wholeheartedly.

Worship team led the church with this song.

The service was closed by Pastor G. Khankham with a benediction.
