Worship Service Write-up

Family-centric Service on Sept 25, 2016 | Time: 11.00 am

Induction of 8 new members to this Church was made. Pastor prayed Pastoral Prayer for the congregants.

He then delivered Sermon on Piching Sunday School, combining two lessons – 17 & 18 on the themes, ‘Numei Angkawmlai mat tungtawn a awksak tupna’ (The attempt to arrest [Jesus] through an adulteress caught red-handed) and ‘Khovel vakna Jesu’ (Jesus – Light of the world) respectively based on the scripture portion from St.John 8:1-30. Memory verses for the lessons are St. John 8 verses 11 & 12 respectively. Brief recapitulation of the last lesson was made as an introduction.

Lesson 17: Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. He went to the Temple one early morning. The people also came to Him and He started teaching them. The Scribes and Pharisees brought an adulteress to Jesus and asked for His views on how to handle the woman quoting first what the Law of Moses teaches on how to handle it. They wanted to test Jesus and bring some charge against Him. Jesus wrote on the ground with his fingers that whoever have never sinned should go ahead and throw the first stone. The people left one by one. At last only Jesus and the woman remains. Jesus advised her not to sin anymore.

Lesson 18: Jesus said He is the light of the world. The Pharisees objected it and didn’t accept what He taught. Jesus said He judge differently, not like how the Pharisees and the Scribes do. Jesus quote from the Law of Moses about the requirement of two witnesses to prove a thing. He said He and His Father fulfills the requirement of two witnessess and hence His teachings are true. Jesus went further and told them that they wouldn’t be able to go where He is going. The people could not understand what that means. Later, Jesus also told them that he would be lifted by the people. He speaks only what God taught Him. Many people put their faith in Jesus.

Pastor then explained some remarkable words seen in the lessons:

  • Mount of Olives: It’s not far from Jerusalem. This place is very much connected to Jesus. Jesus frequented this place. It’s in this place Jesus taught His disciples how to pray. Much of the great sermons of Jesus was delivered here. Jesus also lamented for Jerusalem in this place. Jesus ascended to Heaven and will be coming back in this Mount of Olives as well.
  • Scribes: Scribes are highly educated and well verse in the Laws of Moses. They are also highly respected in the society.
  • Pharisees: Pharisees are a class of people in the society who are known to be extremely loyal to God. Their love for God is beyond doubt. They opposed the Messiah.
  • Adultery: God highly abhors Adultery. God forbids His people to commit adultery. It is also mentioned in the 10 Commandments.
  • Sinless Person: Everyone sins. No one is righteous at the sight of the Lord.
  • Light: In the Bible ‘Light’ is often used to convey various meanings. It is used for Salvation, personal transformation, judgement, etc.

We are not expected to judge others. We should love all human beings. We should speak about love and pray for others. We shold not blame or accuse others. Our relationship with others could be a manifestation of our relationship with God. Let’s check ourselves whether we have good relationship with God.
