A child’s psychological development is influenced by various factors that include physical growth, prenatal care and nutrition, childhood nutrition, maternal bonding, parenting skill and style, etc.

E. Physical Punishments as a Tool to Discipline:
Bible permits use of ‘rod’(Prov.13:24). However, physical punishment must be used judiciously, and its goal must be correction. Spanking – not slapping or hitting – should always be done by a parent who is in control of his/her emotions. It must be remembered that insults and ridicule hurt deeply and permanently.
F. The Exercise of Discipline:
i) The child has to know that discipline is the result of love.
ii)The immediate purpose of discipline is to modify the behaviour of the child.
iii)Long-range goal of discipline is to make the child obedient by his/her own choice.
G. Some Causes of Indiscipline:
a) Influence by interaction with peers.
b) Influence by movies and media.
c) Desire for attention.
H. Some Practical Observations:
i) Scripture should not ordinarily be used as a device for punishment of a child as it will affect in an improper way his attitude toward and evaluation of the Bible.
ii) The Bible may properly be used in discipline to show the child that what he has done is an offense, not only to others, but – more important – to God.
iii)An important feature of discipline is that it be consistent.
iv)It is extremely important that the teacher show repeatedly an interest in, and a liking for, his students.
v) Suppress the urge to preach at the students.
vi)Never make threats that you cannot or do not intend to carry out.
vii)The means and the methods that the teacher uses must be directed to training the child in the way of obedience to God.
I. Conclusion:
It is vital that we remember that the child is learning from us about God. We must, therefore, treat the child in the way that God treats us so that in our actions the child will learn about God.
