HOLY COMMUNION

SERVICE: 20th SEPTEMBER 2015

TIME: 11am

This Sunday morning Holy Communion programme started when the Pastor took to the stage for the opening service, which was followed by praise and worship led by the worship team members. Which was again followed by the dedication of baby Nathan Dongvanglian s/o Mr. & Mrs. Niky Ginlallian Tonsing.

The sermon for the day was taken up by Pastor Biakson just before the communion service. He asked the congregation to utilize this service as a time of self-introspection. How have I failed in my relation with Jesus? Why is God bringing me this far? He then relates of how the Apostle Paul reminds the Corinthians of the importance of the communion service. The Corinthians church was splendid in its appearance but there was a deep divide between the people of the congregation. The Pastor tells that the communion is to make the congregation understand the need to oneness in Christ. There is no used to having a communion when the members are not standing in the same feet. The communion should make us understand that we are a part of the same body where Christ is the head.

The Pastor prays that the communion humbles the pompous, gives confidence to the hopeless. The pastor progresses his preaching by asking the congregation to ask individually what part played in the unity of the church as one. He asks each members if the love of Jesus is what binds us as one. The church of the Corinthians do have occasional communions but are considered a celebration and never a sacred ceremony. They would carry their own food items and each man was bringing for himself as a display of wealth. The lower income earning community would be left ashamed and unjust for the church which promotes inequality.

The pastor tells us the significance of the Lord’s Supper and his request to his disciples to continue it. The bread they ate at this supper symbolizes Christ’s body. And the wine that is being served symbolizes Jesus’s blood which gave a new hope for us. We are not set back by our sins to get to God and with his blood, we get direct access to God.

The pastor warns that while having the Holy Communion, one must be aware of his approach else it could be even fatal. It encourages the congregation to have the communion in the right spirit.

After this, the communion was commenced.
