Sermon by Pastor H.Biakson

Theme:           “The Lord, our good Shepherd” (Psalm 23)

A sheep is characterized as dumb, delicate, short-sighted and vulnerable. It needs to be monitored, guided, safeguarded and protected. In Psalm 23, King David, who had spent most of his childhood being a shepherd, identified himself as a sheep and acknowledged that his life has been steered and protected by the Lord, the good Shepherd.

  • God watches over me: The Lord is our Shepherd. Just as the good Shepherd tends to the sheep, God knows his children personally, watches over us and provides our every need.
  • God is my life and my serenity: The good shepherd brought his flock of sheep to the still waters and made them lie down in green pastures. In this turbulent world, when we are faced with troubles and anxieties, the Lord is able to provide/restore peace of mind and tranquility to those whose refuge is in Him.
  • God is my protection and comfort: Just as the shepherd uses the rod to protect his flock from predators and the staff to guide them in the right path, the Lord protects us from harmful enemies and keeps us from straying. God’s love is infinite and we find comfort in the sanctuary of the good Shepherd.
  • Together with the Lord forever: We are saved by His grace, alive because of His mercy and assured eternal kingdom. As a child of God, His goodness and mercy will follow us all our lives and after we depart from this world, we shall be with the Lord forever in our eternal home.

God made us and knows us thoroughly. He is the good Shepherd who watches over us, guides us and protects us from enemies (John 10:11-16). We must submit ourselves to the Lord, for it is only in the sanctuary of His infinite love that find comfort and peace of mind.
