Worship Service Write-up

YOUTH-CENTRIC SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICE | 2 PM | APRIL 9, 2017

Palm Sunday was celebrated at EBCC Delhi with special performances enjoyed from Mr Ginmuan Khuptong, Ms Veven and the BYF choir. After a round of ‘Hosanna’ shouts and praise and worship led by Worship Team, Upa Ngulminthang performed the consecration of offertories, and then it was time for Pastor H Biakson to deliver the day’s message. Introduction of and prayers for the newly-assigned Area Coordinators was also conducted by the Pastor. The service came to a close with benediction by Upa Khamkhanpau.

Palm Sunday’s Theme: “The Lord needs it” [ Luke 19:28-40 ]

Pastor H Biakson chose to speak on the theme ‘The Lord needs it’ – the words Jesus used while instructing his disciples to go into Jerusalem and bring him the colt. Palm Sunday happened on the 10th of Nisan/Aibib, which was four days before Good Friday.  An estimated 27 lakh people with over 2.5 lakh lambs had thronged Jerusalem to observe the Passover. This was a time when the Jews were ruled upon by the Romans, and the desire for emancipation was at a high point; realise all anxious for the new king who was said to come and liberate them. It was against this backdrop that Jesus chose to make his entry into Jerusalem riding on a colt in humility but in triumph.  ‘The Lord needs it’ was all the disciples needed to say to the colt’s owner, because it was the Lord’s instruction and it sufficed. The Pastor explained that neither the names of the two disciples nor that of the owner of the colts were insignificant because it only mattered that it was the day of the Lord’s glorification. While the colt is not particularly popular among other animals, Jesus made it significant by choosing it to represent humility. Prophet Jeremiah had prophesized that the Messiah would choose the colt to proclaim himself that he is the rightful King who has come! The colt is no more than a young and weak animal by itself, until Jesus used it in a remarkable way, and this is true for people and other things in life [I Corinthians 1:26-31]. The Lord wants us to go and loose people who are bound by different things and bring them to Him. If only we give ourselves to Him, He will direct the paths we have to take just as He did for the disciples. While we migrealizeit, the Lord needs us just like He needed the colt to fulfill His will [Jeremiah 29:11]. We must accept Jesus to be the ‘Lord of our lives’, going beyond having Him only as the ‘Saviour of our lives’.
