SUMMARY OF THE PASTOR’S SERMON:

Theme: “A caring father to the children as desired by God”

Bible verses: Job 1:1-5; Exodus 20:12; Proverbs 20:20; 30:17; Matthew 15:4

A man becomes a Father only after getting married and has a child, which cannot be obtained/got by our own volition but only as a blessing from God. The status of a father is recognized by the Lord which is affirmed from the 5th of the 10 Commandments. Without any differentiation on whether one is a believer or not, the Lord abundantly bestows earthly blessings to those who respect their parents. Much lesson can be learnt from the lives of Job and Noah as fathers – Job always supplicated before the Lord for each of his children, while Noah had no hesitation in cursing his son. The significance of being a father may be explained as below:

I. ‘Father’ is a sublime and precious word/name:

  • The Lord has keen interest in the history of man and He is the one who blesses men with children to continue their generation.
  • If you think your present generation is faulty, you can rectify and make a better generation starting from you.

II. Father is the beholder of blessing and curse:

  • Being the fountains of blessings or curses, most fathers are doesn’t live exemplary lives for their children and families.
  • The Lord channels His blessings through parents and whatever we did to our parents are an act upon God.
  • No matter how ignorant or demure parents may be, we ought to respect them unconditionally.

III. Father is the guiding head of the family in body and spirit:

  • Parents must take great care in conducting themselves as they can unassumingly become harbingers of curses to their children and families through their behaviours/utterances.
