Sermon:-

Isaiah 38:1

“In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaih son of Amoz went to him and said, “This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.”

King Hezekiah had received God’s warning through the prophet about his impending death and the need for him to put his house in order as would not recover.

We see that as a ruler he has the responsibility to look after the welfare, security and developments of his subjects and kingdom. It can be assumed that he might not have the luxury of caring about his health or his family or he might not have the faintest inclination of impending death. Over and above this, his enemy, the Assyrian King Senacherib has continuously threatened his kingdom.

Hezekiah is not only the ruler of Judah but also aFather to his son and daughters and head of his household. If we go further on reading the text, we see the he was a benevolent and God fearing king, not like his father whohas practice idol worship in the kingdom. We also see that Hezekiah was busy in dismantling idol worship places in his kingdom. For all these good andbenevolent works   may be,he has no time to spare for his private and family matters.

From this we can see that while He is pleased with the numerous good works of Hezekiah, God wanted him to put his house in order as he was going to die from his illness. It is an urgent message which cannot be ignored. Hezekiah may be a great ruler , loved by his subjects and steadfast in the eye of God however he has lacked or missed out the most important responsibility of being the head of a family i.e. to put his (our) house in order before it is too late   Let this be a messege to all of us , especially who are blessed with the responsibility of being a ‘Father ‘

The congregation sang one last song and the worship service was then brought to a close with a benediction from the Pastor.
